Unions
Unions are killing our countries' creativity, dynamism, and competitive ability. They were valuable when they were created because they protected people's basic human rights. Today they are rife with corruption, disention, misguided leadership, and a flawed sense of entitlement. More often than not they are publicized for blackmailing companies for raises, more benefits, and working standards. I have personally witnessed many accounts of waste in their operational structure. Early roll-up periods at the end of shifts for walking to the car, dual-gate systems for working with non-union peers, strikes, and forced use of apprentice or journeyman labor are just a few examples. Recently the garbage haulers in Sacramento County have been striking due to a decrease in health benefits. Funny thing is, everyone's healthcare costs are going up. These kind of essential services should be taken away from unions and the ologopolies broken up. It would be interesting to see a union garbage hauler's reaction when entering the emergency room mortally wounded from the joystick thingy they use to pick up trash to find the ER doctors standing outside with picket signs drinking coffee.

I could not agree more.
But what you failed to mention is their usefullness to America.
I believe that this country was in a place when unions were first introduced where we despratley needed them to bring up our standards. Much of the solid foundations that are in place now were created by unions banding the workers together to get what they deserved. Unfortunatley the terrible aftermath is a system that no longer promotes the work ethic nessecary for a company to be competitive. Its almost as though the system works to well. You can be lazy slow and innefficient and rewarded simply because you have been there for more than someone else who might be faster more dedicated and have a better attitude.
In the end will the union companies be unable to compete?
I think so.
Boy I can't agree more. I work in a large union company but my position as management is not a union position. many of the people that I work with are lazy and really thinkthat they are underpaid! It is ajoke. Yes they have life and death situations in their hands but it doesn't all fall on them. You wonder why people can't afford health insurance? It has many factors but a part of that is because of unions. It is practically impossible to fire a union employee who has poor attendance and poor work ethic. It can take months and often doesn't happen because management is strtched too tight.
But the fact that as Americans we believe that we should be entitled to the most expensive tests and the best doctors and that no cost should be spared when it comes to our families is a huge factor driving costs.
We can't have it all but we certainly think that we can and should.
Hey woohoo somone who I didn't tell about my blog actually commented on it. I know who you are so you must have linked through another blog of someone we know. You know the teachers union has the same inherent problems. They just try to make sure that kids are in no way shown anything regarding Christ and everything else. Thanks for the post.
